view site

We would like to make you aware of the new "Menthol and Tobacco" website available from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Tobacco Control Research Branch:
The website provides background information on the pharmacological properties of menthol and its use in tobacco products as a cigarette additive and flavoring. The website also highlights important research on the industry’s targeted marketing practices to promote the use of menthol tobacco products and includes updated menthol cigarette prevalence rates among sociodemographic groups based on national-level data from the 2006-07 Tobacco Use Supplement to the Current Population Survey. Other relevant resources including information on the 2002 First Conference on Menthol Cigarettes, related publications, and links to national and state-level surveys that include questions on menthol are also available on the website. In a few weeks, we will also post a comprehensive bibliography that includes 343 peer-reviewed research articles related to menthol and tobacco. Other updates, including the final report from the recent Second Conference on Menthol Cigarettes, held on October 19-20, 2009, will be added once available.

We hope the information provided on this new website will be a great resource to those examining the issue of menthol and tobacco. Don't forget to pass the information along to interested colleagues!
